Febrile Editorial Board

I'm assembling a Febrile Editorial Board - and I hope you'll be a part of it!

Febrile is looking for enthusiastic, thoughtful, and committed contributors who will take a longitudinal role in shaping Febrile’s future. Potential roles – with details on responsibilities, time commitments, and suggested attributes – are outlined below.

The due date for initial review will be June 14, 2026.  After that time, additional positions will still be considered on rolling basis.

If you have additional questions or would like to meet to discuss, please feel free to email me directly (swdong@bidmc.harvard.edu)!

Febrile Team & Editorial Roles

Episode Writers & Guests

We will still continue and encourage our current model, where individuals partner on one-off episodes or short series.  This remains a great entry point if you’re interested in a more time-limited commitment or want to get a feel for the process before diving in deeper.

To discuss individual episodes or short series, reach out to Sara directly to discuss (email: swdong@bidmc.harvard.edu) – the application form above is targeted for the longitudinal Editorial Board roles.

Podcast Editors

Podcast Editors will be the creative and organizational backbone of Febrile’s episode pipeline.  Each Editor will be paired with a clinical area or episode format they are passionate about, taking ownership of episodes from concept to completion.  Editors will ideally shepherd/produce a minimum of 2-4 episodes over the course of the year, though this may vary based on topic and availability.

  • Responsibilities:
      • Plan and oversee upcoming podcast episode development in your selected area (see below).  Anticipated tasks may include:

      • Collaborative and communicative with other team members and able to foster a friendly environment with learners
      • Organized, attentive to detail, and able to complete work by mutually agreed-upon deadlines
      • Editor roles would likely be best suited for an attending or practicing ID clinician educator with a clinical practice related to their focus area – though motivated ID fellows and other ID-specific healthcare professionals will absolutely be considered
      • Prior experience in podcast or video editing/production, social media, or web design is a welcome bonus, but not required
          • These skills can be developed during your time in the position or Editors are welcome to utilize the ID Digital Institute curriculum and activities for experience

Have another idea?!

The roles above aren’t exhaustive — if you envision a different way to contribute, I want to hear it. Share your interests and ideas in the form below.

Why join the Editorial team?

I know you are busy, and yes, this is a volunteer role. Febrile is an unfunded project, and I can’t offer honoraria or financial compensation – BUT I would like to make a case for the potential value of this work:

  • You will have a genuine opportunity to directly influence the future content and direction of Febrile, which is a well-established and high-quality educational tool with wide uptake by an international audience of ID fellowship programs and professionals.  For an overview of Febrile, you can explore this website and also check out this article from a few years ago: Impact of the Febrile Podcast and Learning Resource as an Infectious Diseases Education Platform
  • Gain skills of the production process of an educational podcast and learning platform. There are few formal ways to truly attain and develop these skills, and this experience will provide a hands-on, flexible, and mentored experience in navigating how to build episodes from scratch
  • You will also serve a vital role as a mentor to the current and future generations of ID professionals who partner on these episodes
  • This is an excellent opportunity (especially for an early-career ID professional) to network with others in the field and share or establish your expertise
      • Being a visible and active Febrile Editor will offer opportunities for career development by expanding your footprint as an educator and strengthening your professional network
      • Your contributions will be clearly credited, recognized and highlighted, and I’m happy to share platform statistics that you can use to demonstrate your reach and impact
  • We are building a team that will have your back. You will join a group of like-minded educators who want to improve everyone’s experience learning about ID!  I also have a full and very personal appreciation for the challenges of working on educational projects like Febrile while balancing your clinical, professional, and personal demands.  I’m committed to building a culture of flexibility, support and positivity for our Editorial Board

Mission & Vision of Febrile

Above all, it is very important to me that Editorial Board members will truly believe in and embody Febrile’s mission.

The core mission of Febrile has always been to provide a free open-access educational resource with high-quality, clinically oriented infectious diseases content. While Febrile serves anyone passionate about ID, trainees are at the heart of everything we do.

Beyond that, Febrile is also about:

  • Community: creating connections among adult, pediatric, and Med-Peds ID colleagues
  • Visibility: highlighting trainees, fellowships, and faculty across ID
  • Creative and engaging education: case-based discussions, clinical reasoning, and expert interviews on high-yield topics
  • Role-modeling: showcasing the diverse and rewarding career paths ID has to offer
  • Teaching: serving as a practical teaching tool for busy ID educators

Every project mission benefits from a reach-for-the-stars vision statement as well – For Febrile, that would be to inspire the future generation of ID physicians!
